Abstract
In this study, Zn-MOF, Zn(dicarb)2.2H2O (H2dicarb = 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid) was synthesised from zinc nitrate and 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid in a 1: 1 molar ratio using an ultrasonic assisted reverse micelle process. FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), XPS (X-ray photo electron spectroscopy), XRD (X-ray diffractogram), FE-SEM, nitrogen adsorption surface area, TGA, and other techniques have been used to characterize the Zn-MOF. Zn-MOF has also been screened against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as pathogenic fungi. Based on inhibition zone diameter (IZD), minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC), it was ascertained that Zn-MOF is a reasonably good antimicrobial agent in comparison to some commercially available drugs. This antimicrobial Zn-MOF shows promise for use in the prevention of infections associated with medical devices. © 2021
